Britney Jean Spears was born on the 2nd of December 1981 in Kentwood, Louisiana. She has been one of the most successful, controversial solo acts in popular music for over a decade. Britney developed an interest in performing at a young age. At the age of 8, she auditioned for a part in Disney Channel’s The New Mickey Mouse Club and unfortunately she didn’t get the part. However, she did achieve a childhood dream which was to perform on the popular entertainment competition Star Search in 1992. Spears tried again for the part in The New Mickey Mouse Club when she was 11 years old. This time she was successful and got a part in the cast which featured some up coming talents like Justin Timberlake etc. She appeared on many children’s variety show for 2 seasons. After it cancelled, she started to focus on developing her musical career. She then landed a contract with Jive Records. In 1998, Britney released her first single “Baby one more time”. At the end of January 1999, the song reached the top of the pop charts. In the music video, she wore a skimpier version of the traditional Catholic schoolgirl uniform. This got her criticism from the parents of her younger fans. Despite her crazy outfits, Spears claimed to be a sweet, innocent Southern girl at heart.
